Did you Believe in ANTING-ANTING and GAYUMA, (fetish and potion)?

One of my friend is asking me this question, just yesterday….
And my answer is NO.
And his answer is Why?
Let me explain those things that we are still inherited to our ancestors, during our Prehistoric times in the Philippines our ancestors are used to do the rituals of an object to make that in effect to have a magical power in a certain situation that they want to happen, example they will gather a stone or rocks in a secluded place, forest or mountains that they believe. And they will perform such rituals in that object to activate its magical powers, and thats what they believe, and they can also show you evidences that this one is effective to the users of that fetish. Well i cannot argue any of those things anyway, but let me finish this very crucial subject of my blogs that is going to open up our mind to the readers of this blog.
When the universe is created, where is the origin of those non living and living organisms, how is created, how, many how, to others but the simple answer is just a simple one. YOU, ME, OURS, US, is created just only by the WORD OF GOD.Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen. 1:4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And remember that we are in the likeness of the image of god.
Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
God also bestowed us a power that we can usethis is the power of our subconscious mind we are using this in our daily lives and the conscious mind we are using it only 10% in its activity we call it analytical this is how we perform the operation in mathematics, science, problem solving and any sort of problem. So lets go back to our subconscious mind, You can bring into your life more power, more wealth, more health, more happiness, and more joy by learning to contact and release the hidden power of your subconscious mind.
You need not acquire this power; you already possess it. But, you want to learn how to use it; you want to understand it so that you can apply it in all departments of your life. The infinite intelligence within your subconscious mind can reveal to you everything you need to know at every moment of time and point of space provided you are open-minded and receptive. You can receive new thoughts and ideas enabling you to bring forth new
inventions, make new discoveries, or write books and plays. Moreover, the infinite
intelligence in your subconscious can impart to you wonderful kinds of knowledge of an
original nature. It can reveal to you and open the way for perfect expression and true
place in your life.
Through the wisdom of your subconscious mind you can attract the ideal companion, as
well as the right business associate or partner. It can find the right buyer for your home,
and provide you with all the money you need, and the financial freedom to be, to do, and
to go, as your heart desires.
It is your right to discover this inner world of thought, feeling, and power, of light, love,
and beauty. Though invisible, its forces are mighty. Within your subconscious mind you
will find the solution for every problem, and the cause for every effect. Because you can
draw out the hidden powers, you come into actual possession of the power and wisdom
necessary to move forward in abundance, security, joy, and dominion.
There is a miraculous healing power in your subconscious that
can heal the troubled mind and the broken heart. It can open the prison door of the mind
and liberate you. It can free you from all kinds of material and physical bondage. You can practice its powers with a certainty of results in exact proportion to your knowledge of its principles and to your application of them for definite specific purposes and goals you wish to achieve.
In chemistry, I would like to point out that if you combine hydrogen and
oxygen in the proportions of two atoms of the former to one of the latter, water would be
the result. You are very familiar with the fact that one atom of oxygen and one atom of
carbon will produce carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas. But, if you add another atom of
oxygen, you will get carbon dioxide, a harmless gas, and so on throughout the vast realm
of chemical compounds.
You must not think that the principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics differ from
the principles of your subconscious mind. Let us consider a generally accepted principle:
“Water seeks its own level.” This is a universal principle, which is applicable to water
everywhere.
Consider another principle: “Matter expands when heated.” This is true anywhere, at any
time, and under all circumstances. You can heat a piece of steel, and it will expand
regardless whether the steel is found in China, England, or India. It is a universal truth
that matter expands when heated. It is also a universal truth that whatever you impress on
your subconscious mind is expressed on the screen of space as condition, experience, and
event.
Your prayer is answered because your subconscious mind is principle, and by principle I
mean the way a thing works. For example, the principle of electricity is that it works from
a higher to a lower potential. You do not change the principle of electricity when you use
it, but by cooperating with nature, you can bring forth marvelous inventions and
discoveries, which bless humanity in countless ways.
Your subconscious mind is principle and works according to the law of belief. You must
know what belief is, why it works, and how it works. Your Bible says in a simple, clear,
and beautiful way: Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be
thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things
which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. MARK 11:23.
The law of your mind is the law of belief. This means to believe in the way your mind
works, to believe in belief itself. The belief of your mind is the thought of your mind—
that is simple—just that and nothing else.
All your experiences, events, conditions, and acts are the reactions of your subconscious
mind to your thoughts. Remember, it is not the thing believed in, but the belief in your
own mind, which brings about the result.
Cease believing in the false beliefs, opinions, superstitions, and fears of mankind. Begin
to believe in the eternal verities and truths of life, which never change. Then, you will
move onward, upward, and Godward. Whoever reads this blog and applies the principles
of the subconscious mind herein set forth; will be able to pray scientifically and
effectively for himself and for others. Your prayer is answered according to the universal
law of action and reaction. Thought is incipient action. The reaction is the response from
your subconscious mind which corresponds with the nature of your thought. Busy your
mind with the concepts of harmony, health, peace, and good will, and wonders will
happen in your life.
I hope that this explanation will clear your understanding about ANTING-ANTING AND GAYUMA (FETISH AND POTION)
your mind is your UNLIMITED POWER…

How to use Affirmations in order to get the results that you want

Here are the techniques that you need to do:

The power of the spoken word should never be underestimated when we are looking to deliberately attract and manifest positive change in our lives.

Words are largely responsible for the people that we are today; the words that we use to describe ourselves, as well as the words of others, have a serious impact on the people that we grow up to be.

Be it positive or negative, a single spoken word or sentence can plant a seed within the brain, which if watered with enough attention over a period of time, will grow to become a reality.

It is important to remember that the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between a fact and something that you have imagined. Therefore, if you have spent a lifetime using words such as shy/lazy/fat/unsuccessful to describe yourself, whether they are a true description or not, this is what will come to manifest in your life.

So as you can see, in order to emit an entirely different (and more positive) frequency to the universe, you need to begin using your words differently. This is where the power of affirmations can come in handy.

MAYBE YOU MAY ASK WHAT IS AFFIRMATIONS?

An affirmation is a repeated and spoken statement, preferably spoken in first person and using the past tense. When we use affirmations, we are trying to align our emotions and frequency with our intent. This is why it is important that when using affirmations, we speak as though we have already achieved our goals – as this helps to promote within us the positive emotions and thoughts that we want the universe to manifest more of.

For example, someone that is hoping to lose weight might choose to say the following affirmation whilst looking in the bathroom mirror every morning.

'I love having a strong and healthy body.'

Because the law of attraction works on the basis that the universe responds to our thoughts and energies, when we use affirmations we are raising our emotional frequency with increased positivity – aligning our thoughts and energies with our 'intent'. This is why affirmations are such an effective tool for deliberate attraction, as they assist to speed up the manifestation process when we are looking to attract something into our lives.

Repetition is key when using affirmations. This is because the more we tell ourselves something – I.e. 'I am a magnet for all the good that life has to offer' – the deeper the message is ingrained and accepted into our sub-conscious, manifesting it in our lives.

Your 3-Step Guide To Using Affirmations

1. Write Down Your Affirmation. Write affirmations that are goal orientated, in present tense and as though they have already been achieved.

2. Believe In It. In order to attract positive change into your life, you need to be emitting the most positive frequency possible. So, feel good whilst you repeat your affirmations to yourself. Really listen to your words and allow the positivity in what you are saying to wash over you.

3. Repeat Often. The more you repeat your affirmations, the deeper they will become ingrained in your subconscious. Repetition creates belief. So, tell yourself something enough times and it will become real for you – manifesting in your life.

Tips and Hints for Using Affirmations

- Leave affirmations around the house or workplace. Write your affirmations on post-it notes and stick them to your bathroom mirror, your fridge, your wardrobe door – absolutely anywhere you can think of! You can even have them as your pc screensaver at work.

- Use affirmations that are believable to you. When you use affirmations that are unbelievable to you, you doubt what you are saying. This will only result in more negativity, preventing your desires from manifesting. Therefore, if you are struggling to believe in the words of your affirmations, put the words 'I am in the process of…' or 'I have decided…' at the begging of your affirmations. This will make your affirmations truer for you, raising your frequency to one of positivity. i.e. 'I am in the process of attracting more money.'

- Try saying 'thank-you' at the beginning of your affirmations. Saying 'thank-you' is a great way of acting 'as if', as you are telling yourself that you are already enjoying something.

- Practice affirmations first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

- Use affirmations during meditation. If you practice meditation, try incorporating your affirmations into your meditation sessions. A meditative mind is one of relaxation and calm – the perfect state for affirmations.

- Concentrate on no more than a few affirmations at a time. This will help you to keep focus on what it is that you want, helping to make your affirmations more successful.

THE COMMANDMENTS OF PEACEFULL RELATIONSHIPS

There are some generalized tips on how to make good and lasting relationship.
1.Listen to your beloved.
2.Try to show tolerance and be open-minded. Avoid showing sarcasm and negativity. In general, anything that can cause you a bad mood or her bad mood should be avoided.
3.You should learn to give as well as to take – to give or take is not the answer, only a combination of the two in equal measure.
4.Try to make your partner’s parents like you. It is very important for both of you.
5.Learn to give unconditionally. To expect always something in return is the same as paying for something.
6.Avoid being too emotional in your everyday life. It can be especially applied to males. You will have to convince your beloved that you are strong; that you are self-confident; that you know what to do; and that she can rely on your emotional strength to be a help for her.
7.Kindness, understanding, trust and consideration are the keywords in relationships. If you are only trying to derive benefit from these relationships, forget about mutual understanding.
8.In every relationship it is important to be a good and reliable friend. If you are your beloved’s understanding friend, she/he will be grateful and rewarding.
9.Don’t let anyone treat you abusively. Demand respect.
10.If your relationships are established, you should carry on showing your beloved that you love and appreciate him/her. It is not difficult. You can do this by little things as buying flowers and small presents from time to time.
11.Beware of possessiveness and claiming behavior. Keep in mind that your partner is as independent as you are and should never be treated as an object or possession.
12.Don’t let other people push your buttons. Otherwise you won’t be able to make any decision by yourself.
13.Learn to adjourn your recompense through patience, trust and understanding.
14.Try to see your partner’s point of view. Agree to disagree.
15.Respect your partner’s space.

How to Deal With Critics and Detractors in Your Life

Joseph Brodsky Explains Perfectly:
In 1960, a young man named Joseph met a woman named Maria.
They lived in Russia together. They shared a passion for art. He wrote poetry. She created paintings. They fell in love and had a child together.
It was shaping up to be a good life until one day in 1972, the Soviet officials came knocking at the door. They stormed Joseph’s apartment, took him captive, tossed him on a plane to Vienna, and informed him that he was exiled from the Soviet Union.
He never saw Maria again.
Anti-Soviet
Joseph was Joseph Brodsky, the famous poet. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1987. His poetry, mostly written in Russian, was received favorably by pretty much everyone except the Soviet government. They claimed Brodsky’s writing was “anti-Soviet” and over the course of a decade he was slandered in the papers, pushed out of his job, and eventually exiled from the country.
Thanks to the help of some fellow poets, Brodsky was able to find refuge in the United States and soon he had teaching positions at Yale, Cambridge, and the University of Michigan. In 1991, nineteen years after being exiled from the Soviet Union (and what must have seemed like an entirely different lifetime), Brodsky was appointed the United States Poet Laureate.
In 1988, Brodsky delivered the commencement speech to students at the University of Michigan. The full speech is shared in Brodsky’s book, On Grief and Reason: Essays. I think it shares a beautiful strategy and method for dealing with the critics, detractors, and negative influences in your life.

“Try not to pay attention to those who will try to make life miserable for you. There will be a lot of those — in the official capacity as well as the self-appointed. Suffer them if you can’t escape them, but once you have steered clear of them, give them the shortest shrift possible. Above all, try to avoid telling stories about the unjust treatment you received at their hands; avoid it no matter how receptive your audience may be. Tales of this sort extend the existence of your antagonists; most likely they are counting on your being talkative and relating your experience to others. By himself, no individual is worth an exercise in injustice (or for that matter, in justice). The ratio of one-to-one doesn’t justify the effort: it’s the echo that counts. That’s the main principle of any oppressor, whether state-sponsored or autodidact. Therefore, steal, or still, the echo, so that you don’t allow an event, however unpleasant or momentous, to claim any more time than it took for it to occur.
What your foes do derives its significance or consequence from the way you react. Therefore, rush through or past them as though they were yellow and not red lights. Don’t linger on them mentally or verbally; don’t pride yourself on forgiving or forgetting them — worse come to worse, do the forgetting first. This way you’ll spare your brain cells a lot of useless agitation; this way, perhaps, you may even save those pigheads from themselves, since the prospect of being forgotten is shorter than that of being forgiven. So flip the channel: you can’t put this network out of circulation, but at least you can reduce its ratings. Now, this solution is not likely to please angels, but, then again, it’s bound to hurt demons, and for the moment that’s all that really matters.”

–Joseph Brodsky, On Grief and Reason: Essays

“It’s the echo that counts”
The impact of negativity is magnified when we talk about it, no matter what we say. We breathe life into poor decisions, bad ideas, and evil people by discussing them over and over again. You wouldn’t want to waste all of your meals on junk food. Why waste your thoughts on junk ideas and your energy on junk people?
The best thing that can happen to bad advice is that it becomes irrelevant, ignored, and forgotten. Whistleblowing and finger pointing has its place I suppose, but I haven’t figured out what that place is. Every time I see smart people investing large portions of time talking about how bad the science is in a particular study or how incorrect the marketing strategy is that one company is using or how uneducated a certain leader is, I can’t help but wonder if that time would have been better spent spreading the word about good science or sharing useful marketing strategies or helping educate the next generation of leaders.
In the words of Brodsky, “it’s the echo that counts.” Negativity doesn’t deserve a louder voice. Spend your time echoing something worth hearing.

More discovery on ancient philippines

It's my interest to always not ceasing the discovery of the past and present secrets of our homeland since this is the only way so that we can understand what is really the truth by knowing these we can discover the present and future digging, the past roots of everything can project us the brighter awakening of our people that we are...and we should...why what is happening now in our country. Is this a KARMA or CURSE why the present situations are going to what we are paying for not obeying and practicing of what the original soul of OPHIR.

Anybody who would like to share your discovery about our homeland, please share it here..comment it below.

 Philippine Disputed names:

Maniolas. According to Fr. Francisco Colin in 1663, a Jesuit friar and an early historian of the Philippines, Maniolas was the name used by Claudius Ptolemy to refer to the group of islands south of China.[24][29] Colin quoted Ptolemy's writings speaking about the Maniolas islands, which is probably Manila. This theory was further supported by José Rizal and Pedro A. Paterno. Rizal also said that the country was recorded to Ptolemy's maps when a sailor named Hippalus told him the existence of "beautiful islands" in southeastern Far East.[12][30] However, Trinidad Pardo de Tavera rejected this notion on his 1910 book, Notas para una cartografia de Filipinas (Notes for the Philippine Cartography).[31]
Ophir (Hebrew: אוֹפִיר) is a region of islands mentioned in the Bible, most famous for its wealth. Accounts mention that King Solomon received the riches of the region every three years. At the emergence of the hydrography of Spanish colonies in Asia in the early 17th century, Dominican Gregorio García wrote that Ophir was indeed located in the Moluccas and the Philippines.[32] In 1609, Juan de Pineda wrote a diverse collection of literature relating Biblical accounts of Solomon, Ophir and the islands.[32] Former Prime Minister Pedro A. Paterno said in one of his works on conjectural anthropology that Ophir is the Philippines because the scented wood Solomon received from Ophir also exists in the Islands.[33] This notion was however, later dismissed by modern historians as merely alluding and comparing the Philippines' position to the Spanish economy with that of Ophir to Solomon's kingdom—the sudden discovery and colonisation of the Islands bringing wealth and prosperity to the realm.[34]
Tawalisi, was an ancient kingdom in Southeast Asia that was reached by the explorer, Ibn Battuta. He reached the kingdom when he was leaving Sumatra, and heading towards China. according to the historical accounts of the explorer. He met Urduja, a legendary warrior princess from Pangasinan. But according to William Henry Scott, Tawilisi and its warrior-princess Urduja are fabulous, fairy-tale, fiction.[35]

Filipino, Jewish Roots

It was believed that in the ancient times one of the Semitic tribes settled in the Philippine archipelago.During the assimilation period of The Ten Lost Tribes, one of the tribe of the son of Israel reached the island and settled there. Having travelled for decades evading persecution from one place to another, they reached Kaifeng and Shanghai in southern China, finally they ventured to niegbhouring islands where they reached the Philippines before the Spaniards came. When the Spaniards discovered the Philippines they were amazed of the circumcision practiced by the natives, these were probably the remnants of the ten lost tribes. Thus, they still imposed the power of inquisition in every new land they were colonized to ensure that no other religion will be preached in their colony. The result of these persecutions did by the ruling power in the old world was the fear for the lives of Israel's remnant and the Marranos who in turn for centuries of persecution became unfamiliar of the Jewish tradition.
For many centuries, the Crypto-Jews, Conversos, the Marranos or the so-called New Christians had lived and assimilated into the Christian world. After the expulsion of Jews and Moslems from Spain in the 1600, these new Christians found refuge in the new colonies under the kingdom of pre-dominantly Catholic Spain and Portugal. Only to find out later that the power of the Inquisition still present in these new found lands and the threats still there. Out of fear for their lives and the lives of their children, these new Christians who secretly observed Judaism finally abandoned their faith and even warned their children not to mention it again. As the years pass by and thru intermarriages, they totally forgot their ways and the traditions of Judaism. Today, their remnants, not knowing of their heritage, many have become faithful Catholics, Protestants, and even Moslems and only few of them finally discover their Jewish roots and fortunately return to Judaism.

The Truth about the Spanish occupancy in the PHILIPPINES

EXPOSING THE TRUTH....THAT NO ONE KNOWS EVEN A PHILIPPINE HISTORIANS

To turn a blind eye to this fact is to forget our history. If our history then is forgotten, when our roots are buried in the rough sands of the sea, we cannot have a sense of national consciousness. And when we do not have a sense of national consciousness, we cannot have any identity and emerge as a truly proud nation. It is only when we recognize our past that we can create our future.

What the Spaniards believed

After the death of King Solomon, Ophir was abandoned and soon forgotten. After the passage of hundreds of years nobody would know where or what is Ophir. The other word associated with Ophir is the word "Tarshish." Nobody also knew what it meant. In old translations of the Bible it was Supposed also to be a place. However, in new translations of the Bible, it is Used to refer to the fleet that went to Ophir.

What happened to the Hebrew or Jewish settlements that were established Process the gold before they were shipped back to King Solomon? Nobody also knew. However, we knew that because of their religious beliefs the Hebrews tend to survive as a separate enclave wherever they settled.

Historical facts

In Spain there is a book called Coleccion General de Documentos Relativos a las Islas Filipinas. It is found in the Archivos de Indias de Sevilla. It was reprinted in 1920 in Barcelona, Spain by the Compania General de Tabaccos de Filipinas. Its Tomo III (1519-1522), pages 112-138, contains Document No. 98 describing how to locate the land of Ophir.

This same volume also contains the official documents regarding the voyage of Ferdinand Magellan. It also contains the logbook of Francisco Albo, the chief pilot of the ship Victoria. This logbook is also one of the main references regarding the voyage of Ferdinand Magellan.

Since this book contains important documents, we can discern that the Spaniards did not really believe that Ophir was in India. In fact the Cabot expedition that left Spain on April 3, 1526 had a secret mission, "to search for a route to Tarsis, OPHIR, Oriental Cathay (China), and Japan."

Document No. 98 describes how to locate the land of Ophir. The travel guide started from the Cape of Good Hope in Africa to India, to Burma, to Sumatra, to Moluccas, to Borneo, to Sulu, to China, then finally Ophir.

Ophir was "in front of China towards the sea, of many islands where the Moluccans, Chinese, and Lequios met to trade…"

This group of islands could not be Japan because the Moluccans did not get there. It could not be Taiwan because it is not "of many islands." Only the present day Philippines could satisfy the description.

Jewish Settlements

Along the route described by Document No. 98 are locations of old Jewish settlements.

It would not be surprising for that was the procedure used by King Solomon's fleet.

Settlements were established at selected places to trade and process the gold and silver. The ships will collect the gold and silver and bring it to King Solomon. To the credit of the Hebrew people, their settlement remained true to the Jewish faith even for thousands of years. Settlements were found in India, Burma, Sumatra, and Vietnam (Annam and Cochin China).

THE TRUTH...SPANIARD IS SEARCHING THE LAND OF OPHIR MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE DURING THE TIME OF KING SOLOMON

Where to find ophir

In a book found in Spain entitled Colección General de Documentos Relativos a las Islas Filipinas (General Collection of Philippine Islands related Documents), the author has described how to locate Ophir. According to the section "Document No. 98", dated 1519-1522, Ophir can be found by travelling from the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, to India, to Burma, to Sumatra, to Moluccas, to Borneo, to Sulu, to China, then finally Ophir. Ophir was said to be "[...] in front of China towards the sea, of many islands where the Moluccans, Chinese, and Lequios met to trade..." Jes Tirol asserts that this group of islands could not be Japan because the Moluccans did not get there, nor Taiwan, since it is not composed of "many islands." Only the present-day Philippines, he says, could fit the description. Spanish records also mention the presence of Lequious (big, bearded white men, probably descendants of the Phoenicians, whose ships were always laden with gold and silver) in the Islands to gather gold and silver. Other evidence has also been pointed out suggesting that the Philippines was the biblical Ophir.

AND WHAT IS OPHIR?

Ophir written in the Old Testament of the Bible 1 Kings 22:48, 9:28 and 22:49,
Psalms 45:9, Isaiah 13:12, Job 22:24, 28:16, 1Chron. 24:4, 1:23, Genesis 10:25-26.
In Genesis 10:25-30 “ And Heber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for his days was the earth divided and his brother’s name was Yoktan. And Yoktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Yerah, and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, and OPHIR, and Havilah, and Yobab; all these were the sons of Yoktan. And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the EAST”.

During the early period of European colonization, the Biblical lands of Tarshish and Ophir, or Tarsis and Ofir, as they were called, held the imagination of European explorers. Not only was it believed that the "lost tribes" of Israel were to be found in these lands, but also untold wealth. To these kingdoms King Solomon and King Hiram of Tyre sent ships for trade that "brought from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones," (I Kings 10:11). Concerning Tarshish it is written: "Fro the king's ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Hiram: every three years once came the shop sof Tarshish bringing gold and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacock." (II Chronicles 9:21)
In Samuel Purchas's well-known travel compendium Purchas His Pilgrim, he devotes the entire first chapter to a discussion of Tarshish and Ophir. In particular, he argues strenously that it is beloved Britain and not Spain that deserved the title as the modern Tarshish and Ophir. Curiously, in Careri's journal of his visit to the Philippines, he mentions that he would not go into the argument raging in Europe at that time over whether the Philippines was originally populated by the descendants of Biblical Tarshish.
In modern times, scholars have attempted to relate Tarshish and Ophir with a number of areas, none of which include the Philippines. However, things were different in Europe prior to the discovery of the Philippines. There, they believed that Tarsis and Ofir were some lands far to the east of biblical Israel. Their reasoning was actually quite logical. King Solomon built the port from which ships departed for Tarsis and Ofir at Ezion-Geber on the coast of the Red Sea. The return journey took about three years, so obviously the location must be somewhere far to the East. In modern times, some scholars have tried to suggest that Solomon's navy circumnavigated
Africa to reach the Mediterranean, but the seafaring Europeans of those times would not consider such nonsense. Tarsis and Ofir were unknown lands beyond the Golden Chersonese of Ptolemy. Their discovery would undoubtedly bring untold wealth and great fame in the minds of the people of those times.
But what, one may ask, has this to do with the Philippines? The truth is that the search for Tarsis and Ofir was directly related to the "discovery" of these islands by Magellan!

That's the truth we are part of the Royal Blood of ISRAEL......

THE DECLINE OF SPANISH RULE

In 1762 Spain became involved in the Seven Years' War (1756-63) on the side of France against Britain; in October 1762, forces of the British East India Company captured Manila after fierce fighting. Spanish resistance continued under Lieutenant Governor Simón de Anda, based at Bacolor in Pampanga Province, and Manila was returned to the Spanish in May 1764 in conformity with the Treaty of Paris, which formally ended the war. The British occupation nonetheless marked, in a very significant sense, the beginning of the end of the old order.
Spanish prestige suffered irreparable damage because of the defeat at British hands. A number of rebellions broke out, of which the most notable was that of Diego Silang in the Ilocos area of northern Luzon. In December 1762, Silang expelled the Spanish from the coastal city of Vigan and set up an independent government. He established friendly relations with the British and was able to repulse Spanish attacks on Vigan, but he was assassinated in May 1763. The Spanish, tied down by fighting with the British and the rebels, were unable to control the raids of the Moros of the south on the Christian communities of the Visayan Islands and Luzon. Thousands of Christian Filipinos were captured as slaves, and Moro raids continued to be a serious problem through the remainder of the century. The Chinese community, resentful of Spanish discrimination, for the most part enthusiastically supported the British, providing them with laborers and armed men who fought de Anda in Pampanga.

After Spanish rule was restored, José Basco y Vargas one of the ablest of Spanish administrators, was the governor from 1778 to 1787, and he implemented a series of reforms designed to promote the economic development of the islands and make them independent of the subsidy from New Spain. In 1781 he established the Economic Society of Friends of the Country, which, throughout its checkered history extending over the next century, encouraged the growth of new crops for export--such as indigo, tea, silk, opium poppies, and abaca (hemp)--and the development of local industry. A government tobacco monopoly was established in 1782. The monopoly brought in large profits for the government and made the Philippines a leader in world tobacco production.
The venerable galleon trade between the Philippines and Mexico continued as a government monopoly until 1815, when the last official galleon from Acapulco docked at Manila. The Royal Company of the Philippines, chartered by the Spanish king in 1785, promoted direct trade from that year on between the islands and Spain. All Philippine goods were given tariff-free status, and the company, together with Basco's Economic Society, encouraged the growth of a cash-crop economy by investing a portion of its early profits in the cultivation of sugar, indigo, peppers, and mulberry trees for silk, as well as in textile factories.
